United Christian Hospital (UCH) established in 1947 in order to serve the people migrating from India to Pakistan at the time of independence and were injured and homeless due to riots.
Christians of Lahore initially set the medical camp at Forman Christian College Campus to provide medical care and shelter to help these sick, injured, homeless and needy people.
Seeing the enormous need of people it was decided to establish a permanent hospital. United Christian Hospital started at FCC Campus shifted to present location at Gulberg lll, Lahore in 1964.
UCH has been providing since then medical & health care services to the people of Pakistan. It soon became the State of the Art Hospital providing tertiary level health care services of high quality.
It became the teaching & training center for the medical and nursing and paramedic professions.
1964 to 1995 UCH saw much growth and progress. First ever Open Heart Surgery was conducted in Pakistan at this Institution.
However in 1970’s the political and social unrest in Pakistan effected the progress and growth of UCH. Medical Missionaries left Pakistan and with that finance and medical expertise also left the Hospital.
UCH started to decline in its progress and faced financial & management crunch. With medical missionaries gone, patients’ flow declined and thus other local medical experts also left the Hospital.
This downward trend continued till 2006.
Dr. Immanuel Benjamin who was Medical Director 1972 took up the burden of reviving UCH.
He rejoined UCH as Medical Director on volunteer basis. He loves UCH.
He raised funds from friends and Churches for uplifting of UCH.
Funds were invested in major repair and renovation of dilapidating UCH buildings.
In Year 2009 USAID gave two projects to UCH through PAIMAN, with special efforts of Dr. Zaffar Ullah Gill, a friend and former Internee of UCH.
First Project was Community Midwifery Training at UCH School of Nursing & Midwifery.
UCH School of Nursing & Midwifery trained two batches of 34 girls each from Punjab Rural Districts. We produced 100% pass results.
Second was Mother Child Health Project the aim of which was to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity among the poorest women of slums of Lahore.
Under MCH Project UCH did House Hold Survey, pregnant women identified, registered for antenatal care & safe delivery from slums of Lahore.
January 29, 2010 a delegation from USAID visited UCH to see the on going Mother and Child Health Care Project. They appreciated the endeavors of the UCH toward serving the poor and needy women of the slums areas while providing antenatal/postnatal and safe delivery service.
With help of Friends & Well Wishers of UCH developmental progress was seen in 2010 & 2011. Private East Ward and 7 of its rooms, Labor Room, Male Medical Ward, Roof Top were repaired and renovated . Roof Top was leaking right into the Operation Theater.
Training in Hospital Evangelism for effective spiritual ministry in hospitals was organized by Christian Hospitals Association of Pakistan. Chaplains from Christian Hospitals through out Pakistan participated. The key speaker was Rev. Dr. Dennis Burns from USA.

UCH goal is to serve people in their dire emergencies at the cost they can afford.
It will take one to two years to complete the above projects and program.
Sustainability of these programs will take another two to three years.
